The Good Doctor, a comedy by Neil Simon, Opening December 2!

Theatre South has been working since early September to present Neil Simon's THE GOOD DOCTOR.  Student Director, Anna Bianco has done a fabulous job with directing.
The Good Doctor is set in Russia during the 19th century and written in the style of Chekhovian comedy. It is composed of a series of scenes in which the only connecting thread is the character of the Writer originally played by Christopher Plummer, who is obviously Anton Chekhov. Simon uses several direct references to Chekhov in the play: The writer's opening monologue quotes Trigorn, the writer in The Seagull, directly and one of the scenes, "The Audition" centers around an untried actress auditioning for The Writer by playing all of Three Sisters. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Good_Doctor_%28play%29).
The show will open to BHSS and New Tech students Thursday, December 2 as an all day matinee. At this time, English classes will be invited to view a teaser of the show. The show opens to the public Friday, December 3 at 7:30pm.

This production is a black-box style, so seating is limited.  Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. You can buy tickets at the door 45 minutes before curtain.

Hope to see you there!

Grapes of Wrath and Returning meeting

Hello Fellow Thespians!
Well, we survived the first week of school virtually unscathed.
I can say from my own experience that I am tired!  These early mornings are killing me!

Anyway, we are gearing up for the field trip to GRAPES OF WRATH. If you want to know more about the production, scroll down to the bottom of this web page and check on the Cardinal Stage link. There you will find the backstory on Grapes.

RETURNING THESPIANS: There will be a brief meeting TUESDAY afterschool in A101. We will discuss the fall picnic for incoming theatre southers and what we want to do.

Also, Anna Bianco and I will be working on the fall production. More to come on Tuesday.

Hope all is well in your worlds!
See you Tuesday--and may the Bard me with you!

Welcome Back!

Dear Students and Theatre Southers,
Welcome back to another year at BHSS!  I hope you all were able to stay awake and charged for your first day back.

I had a few announcements to share.  The first, THERE WILL BE A MEETING FOR ALL RETURNING THESPIANS Tuesday, August 24 at 2:45 in A101.
This is just for returning members, as we are planning to organize a picnic and talk about the year.
Please let me know if you can make it.

Second, there is an exciting opportunity coming our way to participate in a Divesity Theatre performance.  The show would be February 26 and March 5.  I should have more information about that by the meeting.

Please be sure to stop by the theatre room and say hi!

The First Post! Introductions

Hello! While working on on a course for continuing education, I decided to procrastinate and create a new blog that may very well kill two birds with one stone! I decided to create Theatrics 101 as a space to list links, up-coming events and lesser known theatrical tidbits to anyone who cares to drop by.  I would like to use this page as more of a teaching tool once school gets started.  And even though I don't Moodle, this web presence may be just the thing that motivates me to do even more!
My name is CRAD and I have been teaching theatre and drama at Bloomington High School South for 19 years. I am proud to call myself a Panther and spend many hours thinking about shows and how to execute them on the stage. Due to recent cutbacks in education (we are feeling it all across the country), there is concern about the future of programs such as the arts. Keep the faith, my friends!

Take some to to check out the links I have. You can just click on the graphic and it should take you to the various websites. Suggestions and clean comments are always welcome.
May the Bard be with you!
